Question: How to keep myself updated and about new audit methodologies?

Here is what I do to keep myself updated:

  • I am member of few groups on WhatsApp and LinkedIn focusing on Internal Auditing and Risk Management. I take active participation in discussions and offer view/ experience.
  • I try to answer posed at these groups with sincerity and with reference to my experience and standards. I learnt more about standards and develop an appreciation of possible answers for a given scenarios.
  • I try to read various magazines (IIA, ICAI, ACFE, Isaca, Economist, HBR), to keep myself updated on happening in the field and world.
  • I also try to read magazines which are not of IA or RM domain. Reading such magazines give you a totally different perspective and you may be more able to offer constructive feedback to organisation initiatives.
  • I read iaonline and certain blogs (e.g. Richard chamber’s, Norman marks) regularly.
  • I attend conferences.
  • I love to hear opposite views.
  • I read (or hear) books.
  • I have subscribed to a number of podcasts, some of them focus on emerging issues. Some of my favorite podcasts are freakonomics, HBR ideacast, press room from Deloitte university, Ted radio hour.
  • I spend 1 day in a month on research on new reports on risks, surveys, etc.
  • Once a month I visit websites of IIA, ACFE, ISACA, CA, etc.
